MRCA Quietly Plans Malibu Campground Meeting — In LA

Written by on June 22, 2018

The MRCA now says it will have a public meeting … next Wednesday … about its plan for a large campground just above Malibu.

6 o’clock Wednesday … in Los Angeles.

Turns out to the meeting will mean nothing …. legally.

It’s just a scoping meeting … where some lower level bureaucrat will be there to explain what is it planned … and take notes on comments.

The Mountain Recreation Conversation Authority wants to put in a group campground above Malibu … in the mountains west of Pepperdine and east of Corral Canyon.

It’s called Puerco Canyon … it’s the area where director James Cameron gave a huge chunk of land to Joe Edmiston’s park agency … the MRCA.

plan would put in 25 tent pad sites, covered dining and kitchen areas, a covered group gathering area and other buildings.

An enclosed cooking facility might be included … because the campground area is a major fire concern for residents below.

That is planned for a canyon just above the Malibu Community Jewish Center and Synagogue.

To the west of there … above Corral Canyon … a parking lot for up to 90 vehicles … public restrooms and trailhead amenities on the western part of the parcel .

Access to all this would be up Puerco Canyon Road … a very narrow and steep one-lane route.

All this would be outside the city limits … except the road … which is city property.

M R C says the scoping meeting .. for the convenience of property owners and residents in the Project area”  will be held in Pacific Palisades.

That’s 25 miles away from the project … past several public meeting rooms but within the control of the MRCA and its armed police force.

The scoping meeting will be held at Temescal Gateway Park … at Sunset at temescal Canyon Road … in Los Angeles.

It’s next Wednesday … at 6.
