City Releases More Details On Massive PCH Construction

Written by on March 8, 2018

If it seems like every day this week there is a major development in road construction … there is.

First .. the City of Malibu is filling in some of the details on the huge P C H widening and reconstruction project … underway at the Civic Center.

Construction starts next week … as the highway is being widened to accommodate commercial development at the Civic Center area.

This spring … twin left turn lanes will be installed on PCH eastbound … at Webb Way.

The four way stop sign at Civic Center Way at Webb Way will be replaced with a new traffic light … and Webb Way will be widened to six lanes.

And a right turn lane will be installed on PCH westbound … by the Shell gas station at Cross Creek Road.

This is required by the city … so that four new shopping centers have adequate access and don’t clog P C H.

That’s the theory.

Widening the coast highway at Cross Creek will put an end to the heavily-used bike shoulder lanes on the side of the road.

The city has not estimated how adding thousands of bicycles into the traffic flow will affect traffic flow … or safety.

City manager Reva Feldman says the work on P C H will be finished by Memorial Day … and the total reconstruction and widening of Webb Way will be done the week after that … by June First.
