Malfunction Junction To Get Another Tuneup From Caltrans

Written by on May 31, 2019

Caltrans electricians have been called in to repair the malfunctioning signal timer on P C H at Point Dume.

Traffic on eastbound P C H at Heathercliff had been getting 24 second green intervals.

That backed up traffic heading up the hill from Zuma Beach.

KBUU timed the signal yesterday … and called city and state officials … who agreed that the green interval sounded too short.

A technician has to drive out from Los Angeles to reset the computer.

Malibu’s 28 traffic lights are not connected to the central Caltrans Traffic Operations Center in Glendale.

They cannot be reset by remote control.

The plan to connect the eastern half of Malibu to the centralized computer are still in design phase.

And there is no money to connect western Malibu … as city councils have not added it to any priority list.

The traffic signal at Heathercliff is one of several signals malfunctioning in western Malibu.
