KBUU Requests FCC Permission To Air NPR Via KCRW, Local News Will Continue

Written by on March 18, 2020

Radio station KBUU today filed a request at the Federal Communications Commission for legal authority to simulcast NPR programming during the Coronavirus crisis.

KBUU has been given permission by sister public station KCRW to extend KCRW’s signal to Malibu.

Malibu is the only municipality in Southern California that does not get a reliable NPR broadcast signal … due to the mountains that block most L A radio stations from the coastal strip.

The Malibu station seeks to carry certain National Public Radio news programs … such as All Things Considered.

KBUU management intends to continue its Malibu news and music programs … as long as staff can.

KBUU is a very small operation ,.. and if its staff gets sick … there is doubt that KBUU can continue to provide news programming to Malibu.

There is no indication when the FCC will act.
