It looks less likely that Malibu is going to get any rain this weekend.

The National Weather Service says the storm will peter out in Central California.

At best … some light rain Saturday

After a fairly dry fall and early winter … we’ve had a relatively wet March.

All that lovely rain in March is good news and bad news.

The good news is that the moisture level in the thick brush north and west of town is at 105 percent of normal moisture content for this time of year.

That’s according to the Ventura County fire department … as reported in the Ventura County Star.

While the brush is at 1-0-5 percent … the amount of grass underneath the brush has exploded.

Taken together … rainfall totals are about 45 percent of normal for the season.

The vegetation is stressed …. and will burn easily.

Firefighters say  Southern California likely will see the potential for large fires climb to above normal … as early as May.

——

Malibu’s state senator has introduced a proposed law to do away with Columbus Day as an official state holiday.

And Italian Americans are angry.
