This is Malibu’s only local daily news. It’s the   ((((  Friday   ))) edition of the news … from Radio Malibu  …. F-M 99 point 1 K B U U. Good morning … I’m Hans Laetz reporting.

Residents in houses and condos in the Civic Center Area were pretty calm last night … but the city of Malibu has a very tight deadline to construct a $42 million set of sewer lines in their neighborhoods.

The scene was a public meeting with residents and city manager Reva Feldman … over the State water boards order that the residents stopped using septic tanks by the year 2024. Details:  https://www.radiomalibu.net/city-has-to-find-4-million-quick/

The California Public Utilities Commission has been forced by the state legislature to reopen the issue of electric power lines  in fire danger areas.

And with that will come a re-examination of its approval of pre-emptive blackouts. Details: https://www.radiomalibu.net/cpuc-hits-reset-on-blackouts/

Sheriffs deputies in Malibu have lost their ability to issue citations against people sleeping on public property. They blame a recent decision in the ninth circuit Court of Appeals. https://www.radiomalibu.net/deputies-lose-authority-campers/

Malibu resident Caitlyn Jenner has an opinion column running in today’s Washington Post.

She is reacting to a new plan announced by the White House … to eliminate all federal civil rights protections for transgender persons.

In her column … she expresses bitter disappoint in the  policies of the presindet on LBGQ rights.

In it … she writes that she thought Donald trump was a champion for gay rights.

And Caitlyn Jenner writes …

“Sadly, I was wrong. The reality is that the trans community is being relentlessly attacked by this president.

The leader of our nation has shown no regard for an already marginalized and struggling community.

He has ignored our humanity.

He has insulted our dignity.

He has made trans people into political pawns as he whips up animus against us in an attempt to energize the most right-wing segment of his party, claiming his anti-transgender policies are meant to protect the country.

This is politics at its worst.

It is unacceptable, it is upsetting, and it has deeply, personally hurt me.”

The words of Malibu resident Caitlyn Jenner … writing in today’s Washington Post.

A huge slate of events this weekend … as Halloween  approaches next Wednesday.

The city hosts its annual Halloween Carnival this afternoon … at Malibu Bluffs Park.

They’ll be showing “Goonies” after dark.

The Rotary Club Halloween party is at night … over at the Calamigos Beach Club.

Our friends the Karma Dealers will be playing at the Malibu Inn.

Tomorrow… the Fall Festival is at Our Lady of Malibu from noon to 6.

And the paramount Ranch transforms to “Scareamount Ranch” tomorrow night … over on Mulholland.

Ans someone at the M R C A thought it would be a good idea to rent out King Gillette Ranch to three movie industry types … who converted this park into a commercial Halloween display.

It’s called Nights of the Jack.

And it is a Hollywood production… lots of lights and fog machines and msuic.

The pumpkins are carved with luxury goods logos.

This is very Calabasas … about as authentic as a Gucci pumpkin … which by the way they have.

And its pricey … 25 dollars per adult … 20 dollars per kid.

It’s the M R C A’s idea of Halloween … and it’s a commercialized nightmare.

But if that’s your idea of fun … its open every night til Halloween at King Gillette Ranch.
