KBUU Newswire – Fire Day 27, Dec 5 – Fury Aimed At Local Govt – LA Fire Trucks Sent To NorCal Left Malibu Defenseless – LaMonte: Too Many Cops, Not Enough Firefighters

Written by on December 5, 2018

This is KBUU News – Day 27 of the fire:

  • =  Fury … anger … disgust.
  • =  Hard to underplay the feelings in Malibu about its local government … after the complete collapse of usable government services during the fire.
  • =  those are the sentiments of Malibu … hurled by an overflow crowd last night.
  • =  Fire trucks were sent from L-A to north of Sacramento – leaving Malibu defenseless, county says.
  • =  The L A County supervisors agree … the fire department has severe challenges.

This is Malibu’s only local daily news. It’s the   ((((  Wednesday  ))) edition of the news … from Radio Malibu  …. F-M 99 point 1 K B U U. Good morning … I’m Hans Laetz reporting.

Two overflow rooms could not contain the anger last night at city hall …

The biggest crowd in Malibu municipal history … most of them furious with the performance by government agencies during the worst fire disaster in Los Angeles County history.

Incompetent … nonresponsive … amateurs … a joke.  Details:  https://www.radiomalibu.net/fury-anger-boils-over-last-night/

Why was Malibu left to burn? The first explanation from the fire department did not put out the local fire.

The federal government had already sent its firefighters home for the winter.

So fire trucks were sent from LA to the Paradise fire conflagration.

And that left Malibu unprotected.

As for the city councils reaction … not much.

The usual we had a lot to learn from this one comments.

A lot went wrong … and a lot went right.

But even outgoing Councilman Lou la Monte was not happy.

NEWSCART 77952 LA MONTE FIRE QQQ: TOO MANY SHERIFFS.

“As far as the lack of firefighters, there was a complete lack of firefighters, we didn’t have enough firefighters but we had too many sheriffs.”

====

In Los Angeles yesterday … the county Board of Supervisors met … and says that there is a new reality about the Los Angeles County fire department.

And it’s not a pretty reality.

In Sacramento … Gov.-elect Gavin Newsom lobbed a rare compliment at President Trump, saying he’s grateful the president has never “played politics” with disaster declarations following major wildfires in California or last year’s Oroville Dam emergency.

Those measured words are far from the Tweets that the two have been trading this year.

Trump has called Newsom a “clown” …  Newsom has called the president “a small, scared bully.”

When it comes to firefighting resources for California … however … there is no battle of tweets.

Traffic … in 85 seconds … first …

On and off showers all day and tomorrow as well.

But no significant rainfall is expected.

Rain is expected to continue intermittently through tomorrow evening, according to forecasters.

Rainfall rates will be light to moderate … not expected to exceed one-tenth of an inch per hour.

That is far below the threshold for mudslides …

And rainfall rates are otherwise expected to stay below debris flow levels, according to meteorologists at the National Weather Service.

There are no evacuations.
