There may not have been more than a handful of fire trucks in Malibu when the big fire arrived.

But there were lifeguards … and two of them are credited with helping to save Paradise Cove from going up in flames.

Lifeguards Captain Ryan Addison and Specialist Tim Ryan helped mobilize and organize residents of the Paradise Cove community … as they defended their homes from the approaching Woolsey Fire back in 2018.

Addison and Ryan will be recognized with the L A County Lifeguard Medal of Valor for their heroism and exemplary bravery during the Woolsey Fire.

They will get the Lifeguard Medal of Valor awards on July 31st …  during a ceremony coinciding with the International Surf Festival.

It will be sponsored by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce.

In news from down the coast … Bird scooters have ticked off city officials in Santa Monica.

Company officials are accused of committing something called “data anamolies.”

City officials are proposing to cut the number of Bird scooters in Santa Moncia …. Bird will be ordered to pull 250 scooters out of Santa Monica.

But Lyft has been following the rules …. they will get an additional 500 scooter permits in Santa Monica.

City of Santa Monica staff say Bird has generated a higher number of complaints and issues than the other three operators authorized to operate in Santa Monica.

Lyft and Jump’s larger fleets will increase the total number of scooters and bikes in Santa Monica … from 2,500 to 3,000.

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area will finally close to skiing on July 28 after a winter season that saw the Mountain take on 59.8 FEET of snow before the storms finally ceased in May. The deep snowpack, along with a cooler than average and wetter than average spring and summer so far, has allowed the Mountain to continue to keep some runs open but that will come to an end on July 28, according to Mountain officials.

Mammoth had a 260-day winter season this year … with total snowfall of 718 inches.

One for the record books.”
