13 Year old Girl Found Safe Near Beach After Walking Away From Group Home

A 13 year old girl was found safe last night … after walking away from a residential treatment center near Trancas.

A sheriff’s department helicopter used its loudspeaker to ask the public to keep an eye out for the child.

She ran away from a residential treatment center west of Trancas and north of Pacific Coast Highway earlier run the day,

The Malibu Search and Rescue team was also called in.

There was some confusion at the Lost Hills station over what was happening on this side of the hill.

The front desk was overwhelmed with phone calls asking —- “what is it that the helicopter was saying?”

The little girl was found at about 6:30 on Westward Beach Road.

3 Questioned After Transitioned Woman Found Dead, Cellphone And Car Found Elsewhere

Family members are releasing some information about the death of a woman … whose body was found last Thursday off Highway 23 above Malibu.

And the circumstances are suspicious.

Day Rodas was found dead at a pullout off Mulholland Highway, north of Decker Canyon Road … at 7:30 last Thursday morning.

The Los Angeles LGBT Center says Rodas was working in the center’s Community Health Program.

Her sister is named Susie Rodas .. and she wrote on Go Fund Me dot com that Day Rodas had just transitioned to her preferred gender … six months ago.

The family has also revealed that the victim’s car was found in downtown Los Angeles … her cellphone was found somewhere in Malibu … and sheriff’s detectives are questioning three people.

Joe Hollendoner, the CEO of the Los Angeles LGBT Center, says her death comes as violence against transgender people is at an all-time high.

He also complained that In the moments following Day’s death … she was repeatedly misgendered by authorities and the local news media.

The body was originally described as a man by the sheriff’s office … they corrected that report by midday.

Susie Rodas wrote that her father has to pay for the burial, and he does not not make much money at the carwash where he works.

The Gofundme account will pay for the burial.

City Questions Why Caltrans Has To Pay MRCA For A Staircase That Has Not Been Approved

We’ve been reporting that the Coastal Commission is going to decide on Caltrans permits for a wall to protect PCH near Big Rock.

The plan for a vertical concrete wall … under the highway … has already gotten permits from the City of Malibu.

But after that .. the Coastal staff added a requirement that Caltrans pay for a staircase down to Las Tunas beach next door.

Two problems with that.

City planning director Richard Mollica.

Mollica told the Planning Commission that the stairway at las Tunas is part of an MRCA – Mountain Resource Conservation Authority – plan for a series of access ways up and down the Malibu coast … a series of stairways.

Issue 1-A … those staircases do not have city permits.

Issue 1-B … there is no beach.

NEWSCART A73811 SECANT MOLLICA

“As part of their approval the coastal commission has a proposed a special condition – that is what it is termed – to have Caltrans fund a stairway extending out … which I don’t see how that’s gonna work cause I don’t believe there to be enough beach.”

Then comes the issue of the coastal commission staff pulling a fast one … and requiring Caltrans to pay for an MRCA beach access project.

Acting city attorney Trevor Russin.

NEWSCART A73812 SECANT RUSSIN

“How could there be any kind of connection between this repair work for a road requiring a different area, and having a specifically allocated to one particular organization for a project that hasn’t been approved at this point in time or a lot of concerns about what coastal is proposing there.”

The proposed Coastal Commission/MRCA extraction scheme from the Caltrans emergency repair project goes before the Coastal Commission next Thursday.

ATT Wins Permission For Replacement PCH Pole In Eastern Malibu

ATT won permission to put in a new cell antenna near Moonshadows restaurant last night.

Tech pole and antenna will conclude a generator … to keep the system working when the power goes out.

Commissioner Kraig Hill wanted the generator and other equipment placed underground.

But a spokeswoman for ATT said putting an underground vault there would not work.

NEWSCART A73810 ATT POLE

ATT ENGINEER “Debris, water everything getting into the vaults, and compromising the equipment there. We’ve had those issues. We have those all the time.

“And we have to send crews out there, it’s inconvenient troubleshooting troubleshooting it it’s just one thing it’s just a big headache and a lot of money just been in there  there for a site that was put up in constant issues because of equipment that went in a spot where it should not have gone.”

KRAIG HILL: “OK, then, for commissioners, my concern here is the precedent and we’re just gonna say ‘oh you don’t need to abide by this regulation because it’ll cause some headaches’ and some anecdotal evidence.

“We don’t have any real concrete evidence that just says look here’s the same here’s the deal thing that really is no space.”

That was Commissioner Kraig Hill.

The argument that putting everything underground would not work on a cliff … in an active landslide area … next to a ravine that often floods … won the day.

ATT gets to put up its new antenna.

In a first … the ATT equipment will be on a pole used by the Southern California Gas Company.

The Gas Company uses radio signals to read the gas meters at its customers in Malibu.
