Irate PCH Motorists In Lane Closure Told: ‘The Cement Had To Set’ And ‘The Pipe Had To Be Fixed’

Written by on February 17, 2020

The cement had to set.

That’s the reason why Malibu residents saw nobody working at the emergency water main repairs on Pacific Coast Highway in the Palisades over the weekend.

Many residents took to social media to express great anger … at the traffic delays … Traffic was jammed and it took 90 minutes at some points over the weekend.

And on Saturday … those frustrated motorists drove past a construction site that had no workers.

Not happy campers.

County officials tells KBUU … the cement had to cure.

The only big water pipe that delivers water to Malibu and Topanga has been leaking for years … and the bitter medicine was that it would take three days and nights to fix it.

The pipe is huge … 70 years old … and under very high pressure.

A custom-built chucnk of water main had to be bolted on and buried in cement.

That was finished on schedule early Saturday morning … but the cement needed to sit and cure for a day and night before the hole could be refilled and road repaved.

Everything was done on schedule.

And the roadway repairs are reported to be complete.
