Hazmat Yellow Tagging About 25% Done

Written by on December 12, 2018

State and federal hazmat inspectors have cleared another 54 properties yesterday … removing hazardous material from burned-out houses.

And clearing the way from property owners to remove their burned out debris.

That brings the total to 218 … about a quarter of the burned out structures in Malibu and the rest of the Woolsey fire area.

As promised … the E P A and state Department of Toxic Substances have put together a computer page that shows where the cleared properties are.

The state and federal teams have concentrated around Malibu High School and Point Dume Elementary School.

Teams have also begun working on Kanan Dume Road.

But the map shows that work has only begun at the disaster scene at the Seminole Springs Mobile Home park … and have yet to assess any houses off Latigo Canyon Road … Mulholland Highway … or in the devastated mountain ranches along Encinal Canyon and Decker Canyon roads.

Household hazardous waste removal tasks include a door-to-door assessment, survey and collection of household hazardous waste at approximately 1,500 properties in L.A. County.

It also involves the safe removal, transport and disposal of hazardous waste materials.

Yellow clearance placards will be posted on each property that has been cleared of hazardous waste.

With the work one quarter finished … it looks like the teams will finish their work by about December 25th.
