Fire Rule Changes Go To California Coastal Commission Thursday

Written by on March 4, 2019

Malibu’s emergency fire rule changes for fire victims goes before the California Coastal Commission Thursday.

The commission appears to be rushing through the changes requested by the Malibu City Counil.

Among the requested changes are several items viewed as essential to rebuild the city’s housing …

The commission staff has ruled that the changes are minor in nature … an important distinction under state law.

The rule changes will allow temporary housing to remain on a burned out lot for 4 years … or 6 years if construction permits are being pulled.

Bigger access roads for the fire department … and new onsite wastewater systems … will be allowed as long as they do not encroach on environmentally-sensitive habitat areas.

The Malibu fire recovery changes will go before the Coastal Commission Thursday at a meeting near U S C in Los Angeles.
