Fiber Logs Being By State Installed On Burned Lots

Written by on March 20, 2019

Workers have begin installing fiber logs on lots in Malibu where houses once stood … and where rain and erosion threaten to send mud onto nearby streets.

They are called wattles.

Officials with the state Debris Removal Operations Center in Calabasas say the first half dozen lots that have been cleared … their structural debris and ashes hauled off … their soil tested negative for contamination.

The fiber logs are the first of two erosion control measures state crews will use.

Contractors will return to each site within three workdays to apply a wood-based mulch on each property.

After that …  a final walk through … and providing property owners and city officials with documentation verifying that all aspects of the debris removal process are complete.

Soil samples have been taken from 71 cleared properties in Malibu and elsewhere in LA County so far.

A total of 760 properties in Malibu and the mountains … and over the hill … are being cleaned by the state’s Consolidated Debris Removal Program.

Another 96 properties are in Ventura County

Crews are removing structures this week in Malibu on Avenida Del Mar – Bailard Rd – Birdview Ave – Deerhead Road – Morning View Drive … and in the county on Murphy Way.

The deadline to complete private do it yourself fire debris removal was March 15th . only a handful of lots met that deadline.

Extensions are being handed out to anyone who files the paperwork  with plans showing how and when they will remove debris.
