Farrer, Pierson Win City Council Seats

Written by on November 7, 2018

Karen Farrer and Mikke Pierson have won seats on the Malibu city council.

The results show 100 percent of the precincts counted … but some absentee … mail in and provisional ballots have yet to be tallied.

Farrer captured 30 percent of the votes cast.

Pierson …. 26 percent.

That was 400 votes ahead of the third place finisher … Olivia Damavandi … who got 20 percent of the votes.

Jim Palmer gathered 17 percent of the ballots cast.

Lance Simmens … just under 7 percent.

The election results appear to show that the parents of school kids galvanized into a voting block that overrode the so-called slate and other no growth candidates.

There was no formal slate this year … unlike two years ago when three anti-commercial property development candidates won.

Those people generally supported Mike Pearson and Jim Palmer in this election.

Karen Farrer won on the strength of a huge organizing effort by voters supporting the school bond election … which passed big …

They also supported a separate Malibu School District … which was not on the ballot.

The school bond election was viewed by many as a plebiscite School District vote.
