City of LA Powerlines Called Dangerous By City of LA, Threat To Malibu

Written by on November 21, 2019

Southern California Edison has troubles with its powerlines … which have caused the the big fires including the one that devoured Malibu.

Now comes report about the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power … and its creaky overhead power lines.

DWP’s powerlines don’t come any closer to Malibu than the LA city limits.

But that doesn’t mean Malibu’s not endangered by them.

Two months ago DWP powerlines spark the Getty fire … which burned to within 5 miles of the Malibu city limits.

In the Palisades fire may have started under DWP powerlines … it was 2 miles from Malibu.

The Los Angeles city controller yesterday released an audit that urges the city owned Department of water and power to speed up repairs of utility equipment to reduce the risk of sparking wildfires.

The report listed 50 transformers … and 2,230 power poles … in High fire risk areas that need to be replaced.

DWP disagrees.

Unlike a Southern California Edison … the Los Angeles power poles are not regulated by the state.
