They say a woman named April Dice was working on her property in Joshua Tree last weekend when her husband discovered Champion.

The white pit bull mix was coated in dried blood

The couple tried to get the dog out . the dog jumped into their truck.

April Dice told the newspaper …

“It frazzled me because he was bleeding and his face was all torn up but he was just so sweet.”

The dog was rushed to Redlands for emegency vet treatment.

The veterinarian determined Champion had been shot in the face with buckshot … several of the particles were embedded into his skull and would need to be surgically removed.

Champion was transported to the Malibu Coast Animal Hospital … and spent five hours in surgery on Monday.

Donations are being sought to aid Champion to recover.
