Dispute Over Latigo Condos Ensnares City And Coastal

Before the city council next week … a compromise with the California Coastal Commission over the city’s coastal access map.
Coastal has bounced back the the map to the city … over disputes at the Tivoli Cove condominiums.
Those condominiums are at Latigo Beach … and those been a long-standing legal dispute between the homeowners Association and the coastal commission over whether a coastal access route is required by building permits issued years ago.
That issue gummed up the cities access map … which is required by state law.
Coats of commission staff and the city attorney have come up with a compromise.
The map has to be updated to reflect approximately 150 existing coastal easements that have been recorded since the last map was drawn in December 2001.
The new coastal access map increases the number of accessways parallel to the beach from 313 to 587.
It adds one route to access the beach itself … total of 14 now.
It updates public beach park areas …including their names.
And it adds two newer public beaches … Lechuza Beach … near Broad Beach … and a new western segment of Las Tunas Beach.
