Coastal Meets Today At Malibu Bluffs Park

Written by on December 13, 2019

As we’ve reported … the California Coastal Commission meets today … and will take an informal tour of Malibu Bluffs Park …

This tour will have extreme impact on Malibu … as the MRCA is taking control of the vacant land west of Malibu Bluffs Park.

MRCA boss Joe Edmiston is expected to reintroduce his proposal to put camping places on the vacant land.

Speaking during the public comments yesterday… only one Malibu resident appeared.

Deborah Frankel told the commissioners that camping in the Malibu mountains is an invitation to a fire.

The commission is meeting in Malibu for the first time in years … this week.

And at 10-30 this morning … it will take a field trip to Malibu Bluffs park.

That’s where the MRCA has recently taken control of the vacant land … after the city council decided to cancel a proposed land swap.

10 years ago … the MRCA proposed covering the bluffs there with camping … and proposed putting parking lots along P C H.

That was put off … when the city council decided to give Edmiston’s agency the Charmlee Wilderness park – way up Encincal Canyon.

That plan collapsed earlier this year … when city council members faced opposition to a city park down at Bluffs.

Long story short … the M R C A is expected to give Coastal Commissioners a tour of the Bluff Park land today ,.. at 10-30 or later

The time is  little loose.

And yes … the public is allowed to show up … and tell the costal Commission what they think about camping in Malibu.
