City has Had It With Dirty Bins – Malibu Businesses Will Pay To Clean Up Rat Buffets

Written by on January 28, 2020

Malibu is going to require businesses to put locking lids on their outdoor garbage bins … or maybe even use bear-proof containers.

No … there are no bears in Malibu.

The problem is rats.

The Malibu city council last night voted to draw up an ordinance requiring rat-proof garbage bins … so that businesses will not have to use rat poison to meet public health codes.

Kian Schulman is with Poison Free malibu … and has been working tirelessly to get rid of rat poison … and remove the danger to desirable wildlife.

She says the city’s voluntary compliance program is an utter failure.

The city has been inspecting garbage bins every once in a while … and handing out Clean Bay City placards to businesses that do a good job.

“We just surveyed many locales in Malibu just last weekend.

There is no change and there have made no significant difference on the ground.

Several of the Clean Bay City award restaurants for 2019 have been the worst offenders for trash control.”

Schulman took city leaders on a visual tour of Malibu’s dumpsters … a disgusting display of rat friendly garbage bins.

An honor roll of Malibu businesses …. all rat traps.

The city council voted to require garbage bins that are sealable and lockable … a move that will add several hundred dollars per month to the cost of garbage pickup from an average business.

The details … have yet to be worked out.
