City Council Inches Towards Overnight Parking Ban At Corral And Zuma Beaches

Written by on August 20, 2020

Overnight parking along Pacific Coast Highway infuriates many residents.

But the state Coastal Commission regards 24/7 coastline access to be a birthright … and the Commission will not let Malibu ban overnight parking outright.

And the Commission holds all the cards.

That’s the conundrum facing Malibu as it gingerly … mile by mile … tries to get rid of trailer parks that have metastatisized along public beaches.

Las tunas beach… at the city’s eastern end … became a trailer park when L A County banned continuous overnight parking at Topanga Beach last year.

The city is trying to get a permit to ban continuous overnight parking at the Malibu Pier area.

On Monday … the city council will discuss adding Corral Beach and Zuma Beach tp the no continuous parking area.

At Corral Beach … parking would be banned for two hours at midnight on one side of the highway … then for two hours on the other side.

At Zuma .. no parking along the PCH oceanside near Morning View between midnight and 2.

And no parking on PCH oceanside … closer to Trancas …. between 2 and 4 in the morning.

Most of the land side of PCH is already marked no parking at any time.

The recent heat wave sent a wall of Fiberglass to PCH .. in the form of hundreds of campers and RVs.

Lost on many Malibu residents is the fact that many of them were day trippers … who pulled put at dusk.

The matter goes before the city council Monday night on the Zoom platform … the meeting starts at 6:30.
