California Highway Patrol officers will continue to patrol Malibu as back up to the Los Angeles County sheriffs deputies who are assigned here.

Yesterday we told you about a pursuit of Pacific Coast Highway … a motorcyclist who had been  clocked at 80 miles an hour on Kanan Dume Road … sped above 100 mph up Zuma Beach as he tried to evade the pursuing CHP unit.

He was arrested.

CHP Sgt. Dave Kashihara says Malibu residents come up to him and his fellow officers all the time with the local concerns.

He was getting a soda at vintage market at Trancas last weekend when residents complained that picnickers had set up a party a vacant lot … a burned out house of Trancas Canyon Road.

The highway patrol went up to investigate.

KASHIHARA: “They take up … put their chairs out … they put their blankets out yeah …

“You ask them to leave  and they are cooperative in leaving but they shouldn’t be there they shouldn’ tbe there … shouldnt take up ownership.

“We had a party off of Latigo one night … some races brought a DJ up to some burned-out property.

“So we dealt with that one night.

“It’s chaos right now.

“We’ll keep the charge up….”

REPORTER: “Between the sheriff and the resources of the Highway Patrol, do you have enough resources?

KASHIHARA: “It’s difficult to staff when you have to move guys around.

The guys we have are very flexible they come in on their days off they modify their shift times they get started earlier if they think there’s going be a problem.

“So a lot of it is social media.

“We monitor social media so we look for anything that is going to tip the hand our way … and we can find out what they’re going to do.”

Kashihara sasy the long hours are tiring…. the extra shifts are a lot of work.

But he calls the situation on Pacific Coast Highway and the canyon roads chaos.

So if you can support us will be out there, will keep up the charge.

“My boss is 100% committed I’m hundred percent committed.

“And the guys that I have committed going out there are all committed.

“The guys that I have out there they’re good people we’re trying to take care of you guys out there.

“We’ll do everything.

“if we can keep guys out of the burned-out properties … we will.”
