Malibu Burn Victims Have Until COB Thursday To Make Key Decision

Flashing road signs.

Telephone calls from the mayor.

E mails.

Public Service Announcement on the radio station.

Public officials are banging the drums loudly about tomorrow’s deadline to either sign up … or opt out … of the state debris removal program.

Homeowners are confronted with several possible decisions … let the state do it … do it yourself by the March 15th deadline … or in some extreme cases walk away from a property if it cannot be rebuilt because of changed fire codes.

As of Monday … only 30 percent of Malibu residents with fire destruction had signed up for the state program.

L A County .. not the city … but L A County has set a March 15th deadline.

If a property is not scraped by then … the county will declare it a public nuisance.

And then it will do the job itself … and bill the landowner for the work.

That could cost up to $100,000.

The deadline to file the papers … tomorrow at the close of business.
