Bulldozed Hilltop Rocks To Be ‘Resculpted’

Written by on July 31, 2018

Bulldozing a huge rocky formation off the top of a hill above Trancas is proving to be a very expensive mistake for one Malibu homeowner.

A rocky outcropping on upper Trancas Canyon Road was removed two years ago … bulldozed away to improve ocean views from the ground floor of a two story house.

A large, visually prominent rock outcropping was reduced to rubble.

It was big.

60 feet wide at the base, 27 feet wide at the top and 12 feet in height.

No city permit would be possible for this … no permit was pulled.

Neighbors complained.

A stop work order on the project two years ago.

And under an agreement with the owner … the owner will restore the rock formation to its natural size, shape, and height prior to the grading activity.

The area will be re-sculpted to restore the rocks to approximately what they looked like before the illegal grading … and then re-landscaped.

The settlement goes to the city Planning Commission next Monday.
