Budget Hearing Cancelled Because City Council Spent Too Much Time On Other Things

Written by on January 15, 2021

There was supposed to be a city council subcommittee meeting this week … an update on the city’s wildly fluctuating budget situation.

The Woolsey Fire … reconstruction fee waivers … the COVID crisis … plummeting hotel tax and B vacation rental tax revenue have all buffeted the city balances.

A spending freeze was enacted.

So … how is that budget doing???

There was supposed to be a city council subcommittee meeting this week … to talk about the budget.

But the city council on Monday night was tied up on procedural arguments … procedural points of order … and what many residents called pointless bickering …

It adjourned before the council could appoint an Administration and Finance subcommittee.

No subcommittee … no subcommittee budget meeting.

So many questions were posed about the minutae of regular city warrant payments … that citizens are not going to get the broad overview of the city’s financial state at a time of crisis.
