Beach Gate Locked At Escondido After Storm Erosion

Written by on March 7, 2019

Severe erosion of the beach at Escondido Creek has forced closure of the popular beach access gate next to PCH.

L A County Beaches and Harbors has locked the gate … and posted a picture of the problem.

The sand has washed away … leaving a rock barrier protecting a nearby house.

Other accessways along that stretch of beach … remain open.

Malibu is emerging wet but not too muddy after more than an inch of rain fell over the last 36 hours.

There was no major flood or debris flow damage after a night of thunder, lightning and lots of rain.

Nearly 2 inches of rain fell in Malibu Canyon during the storm.

About an inch of rain here at Trancas.

Yesterday’s rock fall in Malibu Canyon … which was cleaned up in just a few minutes … appears to be the only major development.

Thunder rumbled across the area … lightning arced …  as the storm passed through ear;ly in the morning.

One to maybe 3 inches of rain was predicted …

Most of the area did not meet that.

Partly cloudy weather today .. maybe some showers tonight.

It’s possible that we will get another storm Sunday … and maybe another one on Wednesday of next week.
