Are There COVID-19 Cases In Malibu? Yes. Are They In The Official Count? No. Not Enough Tests.

Written by on March 27, 2020

There are now 1216 confirmed Coronavirus cases in Los Angeles County.

That’s confirmed cases … as we are hearing anecdotal evidence of people who have been told by their doctors that they have the disease… but their doctors cannot get them tested.

1216 cases confirmed in Los Angeles County … but none of them specifically within the city of Malibu.

It’s possible that one case in Malibu may be added to the adjacent Santa Monica Mountains neighborhood total … which is now up to 4.

Other confirmed case totals …

Agoura Hills …5.

Calabasas …. 5.

Pacific Palisades …. 12.

Santa Monica … 21.

In Ventura County .. the number of positive cases rose to 61 on Thursday.

Among the positive cases, 15 had been hospitalized as of Thursday, according to a Ventura County spokeswoman.

The number of hospitalized cases was more than double the seven hospitalizations reported Wednesday.

Again … these are confirmed test results.

Other people … an uncounted number … in Malibu and beyond are reporting that they have the symptoms.

That they have gone to hospitals or doctors … and been told they have COVID 19…. there are no test available …. go home and treat yourself.

“If there are 1,000 people who are positive and each one of those people infects two other people … within a few weeks, there could be a million people infected in L.A. County,” said Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

About 9,400 people have been tested Los Angeles county, with about a 10% positive rate.

The mortality rate in L.A. County is 1.6%

California’s top medical advisor said Wednesday that COVID-19 cases in the state continued to double every three to four days.

That pace, he said, is on par with New York, where some hospitals are packed.

If the rate holds, California hospitals could see a surge in patients in one to two weeks, Dr. Mark Ghaly, the state’s secretary of Health and Human Services, said during a Facebook news conference.

Los Angeles County public health officials said Thursday that the Convention Center will be used for the quarantine and isolation of COVID-19 patients who have been released from hospitals and must isolate for 14 days.
