Another Coronavirus Casualty: Payments To SCE Fire Victims On Indefinite Hold

Written by on March 18, 2020

The Coronavirus is causing a delay in settlement talks between Malibu fire victims and Southern California Edison.

And the Supervising Judge of Los Angeles Civil Courts has postponed all hearings for at least 30 days.

That means Judge William Highberger has … like all judges … virtually shut down his courtroom.

One attorney … who represents many Malibu fire victims … is telling his clients that attempts to open settlement discussions with Southern California Edison and Edison International have been delayed as well.

The ongoing pandemic has created delays with the discussions.

Edison has already said it “believes it is likely that its equipment was associated with the ignition of the Woolsey Fire.”

This delay also means a delay in finding out the official cause of the Woolsey Fire.

Edison admits that an investigation report from the Ventura County Fire Department says that SCE’s electrical equipment caused the fire.

The report is sealed under a protective order as part of the lawsuits over the Woolsey Fire.

One point six billion dollars worth of property was destroyed by the Woolsey Fire … including more than 16 hundred houses …. 450 houses of those destroyed houses were in the city of Malibu.
