New Power Company’s Rate Hikes Match Edison Rate Hikes

Officials at the new utility cooperatives that has taken over supplying electricity to most of Malibu see their rates are going up because Southern California Edison has raised their rates.
Also … the state of California is making the new energy cooperative pay four past blunders made by S C E.
Many Malibu residents have complained that their rates have gone up since their electricity provider has been switched to the Clean Power Alliance.
The Clean Power Alliance is a cooperative formed by 32 cities and counties in 2017 with the goal of procuring renewable energy at a lower cost than Edison.
There are two problems.
First … the Clean Power Alliance has been socked with a huge bill by the California Public Utilties Commission.
It’s an exit tax … being charged to the cooperative to pay for past Edison blunders.
There’s a real question as to whether that charge is justified.
Second … the Clean Power alliance rates are tied to those charged by Edison.
Edison raised rates four times in five months, said CPA’s Executive Director Ted Bardacke.
In at least one case, he along with the rest of the public had three days’ notice to respond.
“These changes had unanticipated rate increases on us,” he told the Ventura County Star.
CPA says the bill increase impact only its highest electric users.
The Ventura County Star says some cities across Ventura County are moving their accounts back to Southern California Edison.
As high as the new alliance rates are … the fact is that they are tracking increases in SCE rates watt by watt and dollar for dollar.
