About 15 Malibu students gathered in the misty rain Saturday … to join support of a youth movement aimed at slowing down global warming and reversing human caused pollution.

The young climate activists announced new steps they are taking local to stand up for their right to a future free from climate catastrophe.

There were close to 100 coordinated press conferences last Saturday across the country … aimed at drawing attention to a lawsuit called Juliana v. United States.

That is a lawsuit filed in federal court on Portland … where a group of young people are asserting a constitutional right to a stable climate.

The coordinated press conferences are intended to send a national message that young people will remain on the front lines of combating the climate crisis until they have reclaimed their future. Climate activist Anderson Newman piointed out the brown hills …

“See those dead sticks up there ???

“That’s dead black mustard.

“That’s an invasive weed that takes over these green areas and it dies very quickly creating a huge fuel load.

“So as the earth worms up and the climate changes, and more of that black mustard is here, the fires are going to come more and more.”

The lawsuit in Portland is aimed at fossil fuels … and asserts that young peoples’ rights to live in the future are being trampled on by extracting fossil fuels.

Georgia Kennedy-Bailey said Saturday that the clock is ticking.

“In 11 years we will have sent an amount of carbon emissions in the atmosphere that will create an irreversible effect, and destroy the planet that we live on.”

Standing in the rain on a fire blackened hillside seemed a particularly bleak landscap for the students’ messages.

Collette Aldrich says a green wave is needed … both in Malibu … in the federal courthouse in Portland… and most particularly in Washington.

“Our government seems to be in capable of passing laws or legislation to protect our rights and our planet.”

During the Saturday news conference, in Malibu … the student activists announced their new program associated with Malibu Foundation, titled Malibu Green Wave.
