A wind-driven brush fire that started late Monday afternoon near Highway 154 in Santa Barbara County.

It  moved quickly downhill towards the Cathedral oaks area … , prompting mandatory evacuations and threatening homes.

The Cave fire started just after 4 p.m. near East Camino Cielo and Painted Cave Road.

Evacuation order is issued for the area between Highway 154 … below East Camino Cielo and Foothill road.

Officials warned that SCE may turn off power to the area west of Goleta between and parts of Montecito, Summerland and Carpinteria.

By 8 a.m. … it had grown to at least 41 hundred acres, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Again … no fires burning … no evacuation orders …. no fires anywhere close to Malibu.

——

Caltrans gave notice yesterday they would have intermittent lane closures for striping work on PCH at the Escondido Beach project … this mroning from 3AM to noon.

No one there.

This is at the former narrow lane area . which has been fixed … all except for the restriping.

Looks like the 30 mile per hour speed trap will be with us at least another week … given the rain and the four-day holiday coming. Caltrans crews were supposed to be out early this morning on P C H … at that hated 30 mile per hour zone.

It was supposed to have been yanked out … and road lines striped … this morning.

Dozens of speeding tickets were apparently handed out in the 2 year long construction zone … which was widely ignored … forcing motorists to either speed or risk getting rear-ended.

And here’s a scary story from Santa Monica.

An unusual lightning strike during last week’s rainstorm hit a natural gas pipe.

It fused the gas delivery pipe to a water pipe.

And that caused water to flow into the gas pipe … displacing the methane.

300 houes and businesses lost their natural gas delivery for several days …. as more than 10 thousand gallons of water was pumped out of the gas pipes.
