Sheriff Yields to Critics, Asks Independent Review Of Kobe Photo Flap

Written by on March 9, 2020

One day after getting publicly roasted over the Kobe Bryant photos issue … L A County Sheriff Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva is calling for an independent review of his actions.

Last Tuesday … the sheriff came in for criticism by Malibu Canyon residents over his ordering deputies to delete photos from their phones.

The pictures showed gruesome images captured immediately after Kobe Bryant … his daughter and 7 others persons were killed when their helicopter slammed into the side of the mountain 13 miles north of Malibu.

On Wednesday … the sheriff asked the civilian watchdog to monitor its investigation of the scandal

The sheriff said he wants the Office of the Inspector General to “immediately assign an investigator to (the) case for oversight and transparency purposes.”

Villanueva also asked the Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission to weigh in as the department drafts a new policy regarding the taking and distribution of photographs and recordings by on-duty personnel.

the sheriff wrote that … and we quote … “It is evident our photograph policy is deficient and this incident has identified a need for me to direct the creation of new policy,”

That story was reported by the L A Times on Saturday.
