1 Dead, 2 Injured As ‘Vacation Rentals’ Go Up In Flames During Santa Anas

Written by on January 18, 2021

Gasoline just got poured on the hot-button issue of vacation rental houses in Malibu.

Two fires … one of them deadly … broke out during Santa Ana winds early Sunday morning.

One person is dead … and two others seriously injured … in a predawn fire … in a short term rental house … way up in the Santa Monica Mountains.

200 firefighters were sent to the unfolding disaster … two miles up the mountain road on Rambla Pacifico … near upper Las Flores Canyon Road.

The house fire spread into the surrounding brush … a helicopter operation using night vision goggle helped stop the fire before it could spread beyond three to four acres.

Neighbors were put an alert to evacuate … that turned out not to be needed.

The house was totally destroyed.

It was being rented out full time as a Malibu mountains getaway.

And while firefighters were busy with that … and eight miles away … a beachfront house on Malibu Road caught fire.

No one injured there … but the house had flames going through the roof.

This was on the beach right in front of the landmark known as Cher’s House.
