PCH Cliff Needs Work Near Tuna Canyon

Written by on July 19, 2018

Caltrans plans some major earthmoving above P C H at the east end of town next week.

Repairs need to be done on the hillside above PCH just west of the tuna Canyon Road intersection.

Drainage benches just west of Tuna Canyon need to be cleaned and repaired.

The drainage benches were installed as a result of the big 1997 landslide … which closed PCH for several weeks.

Over the years, about 100 feet of drainageways have collapsed.

And that means water is not draining off of the hillside properly … putting the road in jeopardy.

Next week … Caltrans will put flaggers on tuna Canyon Road as heavy machinery is moved up the canyon to access the top of the hill.

Minimal delays are expected on PCH itself.

But downhill traffic on the one-way tuna Canyon Road may be delayed significantly.
