Morning View To Get Widened – Board Will Vote On $54 Mil Contract Thurs

Morning View Drive is going to be widened in front of Malibu High School.

The city of Malibu is going to require the Santa Monica Malibu unified school district to move the sidewalk further onto the school campus … and remove and replace the trees currently growing along the street.

The school board is being asked this week to budget $31,000 to design the street widening.

The street widening will allow and on street Drop off and pick up lane in front of the new school administration building … now under construction.

The school board will also vote on the 54 point 2 million dollar contract to rebuild the front third of the school.

McCarthy building companies … a major California contracting company … has won the bid.

District construction manager Carrie Upton says the project came in under the bid estimate slightly.

The school board is considering a bond issue of as much as $150 million to tear down the back three fourths of the school … or most of it … and build a new campus.

The vote is Thursday night at the school board meeting in Santa Monica.
