Law Aimed At Lousy SC Edison Service

Written by on May 7, 2018

State Senator Henry Stern is proposing a law aimed partly at the correcting the unreliable electric service provided to Malibu by Southern California Edison.

His bill …  SB 1339 … would require electric companies to submit an electrical grid resiliency deployment plan … and then increase resiliency.

The bill would also require the California Public Utilities Commission to consider the role of microgrids to provide more reliable power.

A microgrid would use locally-generated power … possibly from solar but more likely from burning methane …

Malibu generally has not had power transmission problems … however … our problem is a poor distribution system.

On one weekend in 20166 … Malibu had at least 14 power outages due to fog causing shorts on poorly-maintained Southern California Edison power poles.
