Both Webster Elementary school and Pepperdine University

cancelled classes yesterday … but were in session today.

Heavy rain storms hit the Malibu area and set rocks falling on the Malibu Canyon Road… a major access route for students at both campuses.

Employees also use Malibu Canyon to get to work.

Several cars were hit by falling large rocks and badly damaged on the road near the tunnel yesterday.

Broken radiators… smashed grills … dented side panels.

Most of the serious rock falls were in Malibu Canyon … neat the tunnel.

Many cars on Kanan Dume Road also broke their wheels … as drivers were unable to avoid sharp rocks on the pavement.

Fire damaged hillsides are going to cost thousands of dollars of damage to cars … and may injure people … as they shed rocks in this winters rainstorms.

Malibu’s city council is expected to meet in emergency session next Tuesday.

City manager Reva Feldman tells KBUU News there are numerous emergency matters to be placed on the agenda …

The city manager has unilaterally ended Malibu’s ban on plastic sandbags … due to the fire emergency.

The city council may have to ratify that .. and some emergency contracts that the city staff has approved.

One contract … was to save Latigo Canyon Road in the switchbacks.

The fire took out some wooden braces the support the road in the active landslide area.

Heavy metal plates were shoved straight down into the roadside … to prevent it from going down the hill.
