Broken Down Old Camper Causes 2 Hour Delays On PCH

Written by on October 29, 2018

Traffic delays of more than two hours greeted Malibu residents heading into Santa Monica or Los Angeles today.

The guy in one of those old broken down Winnebago campers … parked for weeks on the side of Pacific Coast Highway East of town … apparently decided to try to head into the city today.

The beat-up old RV camper made it as far as the Getty Villa when it broke down in a traffic lane.

It could not have happened in the worst place.

The only alternative is Highway 101.

Traffic backed up all the way to Pepperdine … delays of two to 2-1/2 hours.

We did some quick math … came up with about 12 thousand 500 cumulative hours spent in stopped traffic by motorists today.

It is not provable that the broken down RV is one of the ones that has been parked for days – weeks – months along PCH.  The photo we have of it sure looks like it.

But beyond question, a policy of allowing and encouraging Pacific Coast Highway to be a repository of old RVs and persons living in beachfront squalor has been perpetuated by the Coastal Commission.

And today’s mess was likely caused by that.
