Woolsey Fire To Get Raked Over The Coals Tonight

Written by on August 12, 2019

The Woolsey Fire … and the response of the Malibu city manager and staff … goes front and center tonight.

Also … the 53 specific recommendations made by a team of outside consultants … who looked at the city’s performance during the emergency.

Management Partners’ report was commissioned by the two new members of the city council… Karen Farrer and Mikke Pierson.

The other three council members decided it would be a good idea to step back … and let the newcomers analyze the performance record.

The Management Partners report did not go through the city manager Reva Feldman for editing or for her reaction.

The consultant’s report was not severely critical generally of the city staff’s performance.

It did find that the city was unprepared for handling a disaster that meant evacuation of the city’s emergency operations center … at City Hall.

And that caused a 16 hour gap at the height of the emergency … when the city was not in a position to best handle the immediate crisis.

The analysis stressed over and over again … that dealing with the fire from a public safety standpoint was in the realm of an elected county sheriff … and a County fire Department under the control of the Board of Supervisors.

But the report did not analyze how the fire department and sheriff’s office handled the emergency.

We have a copy of the analysis posted on the KBUU newswire today.
