Malibu High School’s new classroom building will be open in time for school to start this year.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is being arranged for this month.
And district officials say the building should be ready for a grand opening on Get Your Stuff Day … in two weeks … on August 13.
The new two-story building is made of repurposed shipping containers …. stacked and welded and made unrecognizable from their former uses.
It has 12 classrooms … three sets of boys and girls restrooms … an elevator tower, and stairs and associated improvements.
The site elements include a new walkway, landscaping, concrete seat walls, exterior courtyard, stairs and canopy.
District officials say that construction delays on the other major project at the campus will not push back its opening to students … still planned for one year from now.
A school board agenda item warns of substantial delays … caused by the Woolsey Fire and subsequent flooding.
And while that delay will eat into the moving-in period next summer … it will not delay student use of the new building … set for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year … according to school officials.
