Malibu Beach Inn Traffic Light And Cross-PCH Parking Again At City Hall

Written by on April 15, 2019

What may be the final decision on the proposal by the Malibu Beach Inn to put its parking lot on the inland side of Pacific Coast Highway goes before the planning commission tonight.

Commissioners already said they plan to reject the proposal to split the business on both sides of the cities major traffic artery.

But the owners of the hotel have intimated that they will go to the court to get what they believed to be an entitlement to use their property as they see fit.

The Malibu Beach Inn seeks to construct a new swimming pool and pool deck with dining service where they are supposed to park cars.

Valets wood shuttle restaurant and hotel patrons cars across PCH at a new traffic light … and park the cars down the street at the parking lot currently occupied by Hertz rent a car.

Caltrans already jumped the gun and approved construction of the traffic light … just 500 feet away from the existing traffic light at Malibu Pier.

And that has triggered some furious opposition from some Malibu residents … who object to Pacific Coast Highway in effect becoming a part of the hotel parking lot.

Commissioners have indicated they favor building a smaller pool and sun deck at the hotel … where guests are reportedly complaining that the beach sand has washed away.

Planning commissioners will also get an update on the city’s rebuilding process.

The planning commission meets at 6:30 tonight at Malibu City Hall.
