On Monday … the Malibu city council will accept the deeds for 3 commercial lots … purchased for $42.5 million.

The chili cook off site near City Hall … the triangle property at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway at web way … and the point doom vacant lot used for Christmas tree sales by Malibu high schools Athletic boosters Will become city property on Monday.

The city has gone into debt to buy the land … but the purchase takes several commercial properties off the market.

But the city manager says we can easily afford it.

Along with the purchase of land northwest of Trancas market … and the negotiations over the vacant land west of Bluffs Park … the city now has control over

five large vacant parcels that could be used for Parks development .. kept as vacant open sapce … or who knows ????

The next city council will decide on that.

The funeral for the man who was killed on Pacific Coast Highway 2 weeks ago Will be today.

Rick Artes was a long time Malibu woodworker.

Arles was a contractor … financial support of his family … who had done extensive work in

three decades Malibu.

He was killed when a van driven by Mike Hollinrake … a 48-year-old man who had lived in his van … a Malibu native familiar on the beachfront scene.

The Artes family has a GoFundMe account established to pay for the funeral.

Services are at 11 at the Los Coyotes Country Club … near Long Beach.

At Zuma Beach … dirt haulers will be back today on Morning View Drive.

About a hundred truckloads of dirt … being hauled off fro Malibu High School.

The dirt has tested with trace amounts of PCBs … which had been used 50 years ago in flooring and other building materials at the oldest part of the school.

Flaggers are out … dust control includes frequent street sweeping on Morning View Drive.

Watch out for the trucks.

And … here’s a household hazardous waste drop off tomorrow in Malibu.

It’s from 10 to 2 on Saturday at the upper parking lot at Malibu City Hall.

Hazardous material should be put in your car in sacks … and labeled with a magic marker.

Follow the signs … drive up to City Hall  … and let the workers unload it for you.
