Santa Barbara Asks Edison `What Took You So Long’ To Turn Off Power In Winds?

Southern California Edison officials are rolling out their preemptive blackouts policy across the region.

Meetings being held this week in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

Some people there are welcoming the plan … to kill electricity when high winds threaten.

Santa Barbara Mayor Cathy Murillo thanked SCE for the company’s work … and then asked what took them so long??

“Some of us wonder why you haven’t done that yet,” she said. “We’ve had sundowner [winds] and fire threats for a very long time.”

At that meeting … according to the Santa Barbara Independent newspaper …. one city council member asked S-C-E’s engineer if he thought a preemptive blackout may have prevented the Thomas Fire

That was the disastrous 240-square mile fire blamed for a thousand structures lost in Ventura … and 22 lost lives near Santa Barbara.

The electric company cited lawsuits . and said no comment.
