Surf is up.

The first south swell in a long time is predicted to hit the Malibu coast today and tomorrow.

The National Weather Service says waves up to 7 feet are possible on south facing beaches.

They’ve issued a beach hazards statement …. which is one step below a

high surf advisory,

At Surfline … they’re calling it “a healthy, long period SSW Southern Hemisphere” wave event. Light and variable winds will mean clean conditions.

Malibu’s city budget goes before the city council for a vote on Monday.

And it shows that the city’s savings account is dipping just about as low as it can go … as Malibu is making a major investment in the future.

In news from down the coast … and this may affect the Malibu school separation effort.

The Santa Monica daily press reports that a Latino and Spanish-speaking parent group is re-establishing itself in the Santa Monica Malibu unified school district.

Ocean levels will go up 16 inches in the Malibu area in the next 40 years … more likely than not … according to a new study paid for by the California Coastal Commission.

The study gives a 66 percent probability that sea levels along the Ventura County coast will rise 16 inches by the year 2060.

Almost 2 billion dollars worth of private property and long stretches of Pacific Coast Highway are threatened by this .. according to the study … which is called “Ventura County Resilient.

Ventura County all ready has the most coastal erosion of any county in California.

The study says there are three choices three choices: relocate structures and roads inland, adapt to the rising seas by adding or reinforcing infrastructure, or “do nothing …

Weather for the Malibu ….

Winds will be light today.

No downcoast wind predicted this afternoon.

Sunset tonight is at   ((((       )))).

Late night and early morning coastal clouds and mountain fog tonight … low ((((  55  )))) beaches …  ((((   52   )))) mountains and canyons.

Tomorrow should be   ((((   May gray but a windy afternoon.  )))).

In the ocean … it’s ((((   57     )))) degrees in the water at Zuma Beach.

The lifeguards say the waves today are   ((((  4 to 7   )))) feet high ….

((((  The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazards statement.

They warn of waves up to 7 feet high.  ))))

Those are ((((  fair )))) surfing conditions …. according to the lifeguards.

(((((  Low tide  is at   11:45.

And there’s a 6 foot high tide at 6:30 tonight.  ))))
