Starting tomorrow afternoon with showers … heavier rain later.

Malibu has a new police chief.

It’s Alex Villanueva.

He has gone from being a little-known lieutenant in the massive Los Angeles County sheriffs office … to ousting the incumbent elected Sheriff …  Jim McDonnell.

McDonnell conceded the race on Monday, saying in a statement he would arrange for a smooth transition.

The Los Angeles Times and analysis says via Nueva supporters painted him as a Democrat and used anger at Donald Trump as a tool against the incumbent McDonnell.

McDonnell has been registered as Republican in the past ran is a nonpartisan.

The new sheriff …. Villanueva … Will apparently be the first Democratic sheriff in the county in 138 years.

Villanueva is 55.

He is scheduled to be sworn in as the 33rd sheriff next Monday at East Los Angeles College.

Labor leaders in Los Angeles are crowing that they ousted McDonnell … the deputies union endorsed via Nueva.

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for Malibu  … effective from 6 o’clock tonight until 10 PM next Friday.

Two storms in the Gulf of Alaska are pumping huge swells South … and they will wrap around point conception.

Melaleuca and expect a high surf of 6 to 12 feet beginning tomorrow afternoon and persisting at least through Thursday night.

A high lunar tide of 5.6 feet is expected around noon tomorrow.
