- And the city council gives high marks to the new school superintendent’s plan to close one of Malibu’s three elementary schools.

October 15th is the day … that every outdoor light in Malibu must be shielded … pointed down … and turned off by 11 at night.
There are a few exceptions … but the Malibu city council last night enacted one of the nation’s toughest bans on outdoor lighting.
A few adjustments were made to the ordinance last night.
Outdoor string lights will be allowed … but only at dining and entertaining areas … only during times when people are outside … and they have to be shut off when people go inside.
Other than that … the ordinance was not tinkered with last night … when the city Council approved it by a 5 to nothing vote.
Now comes a public education campaign … to let businesses and homeowners know about the coming rule change.
Gas stations .. For example … will have about a year to change out the light fixtures so that the store is no longer glow-in-the-dark.
Homeowners face a and October 15 deadline to readjust … replace … and build timers for their outdoor lighting.
But the days of estates lit up with floodlights pointing up in the air on their palm trees … fest tuned with thousands of sparkly Christmas lights …. Appear to be over.
Parks superintendent, surfers, city agree on plan for Malibu Lagoon study.
But no immediate lagoon breach, as surfers want.
Controversy is brewing over a proposed ocean water desalination plant … proposed by the water agency that supplies water to Malibu.

Santa Monica school superintendent Ben Drati appeared at the Malibu city council meeting last night … to explain why one of the three elementary schools in Malibu needs to be shut down.

In the ocean … it’s (((( 56 )))) degrees in the water at Zuma Beach.
The lifeguards say the waves today are (((( 2 to 3 )))) feet high ….
(((( A small south southwest swell continues ))))
Those are (((( poor to fair )))) surfing conditions …. according to the lifeguards.
((((( High tide is at 10:35 this morning … 4 feet.
Low tide at 3:48 PM.
Then a 6 foot high tide tonight just after 10. ))))
