Beaches Briefly Closed By T-storm

Written by on July 19, 2018

Well…. that was interesting.

A little thunderstorm cell crept west down the Santa Monica Mountains at midday yesterday.

That was just enough to make the streets wet in most of Malibu.

A few places got a real downpour … but most rain gauges registered only a trace.

Beaches were closed as lightning and thunder made a surprise summer entrance.

Atmospheric electronics like that are very rare here in Malibu.

The beaches were reopened after about 90 minutes … as a small thunder cell sputtered out to sea.

UCLA got almost 2/10 of an inch of rain … the most we could find in the Malibu area.

One car crash in the wet streets.

A sedan flipped on its side on Topanga Canyon Boulevard just north of PCH … during the height of the little downpour.
