Hill Fire update: The hill fire is burning southeast from the top of the Conejo Grade in Newbury Park. The front of the fire is burning towards Cal State Channel Islands, which has been evacuated. Like the Springs Fire three years ago, this fire is burning towards Pt Mugu.
There is very little danger to Malibu, until the Santa Anas die and strong coastal winds develop. And that is the forecast for late tomorrow.
Like the Springs fire three years ago, the key for Malibu is to watch the wind direction at Point Mugu and Camarillo. Last time, the wind direction did change – but the downcoast winds weren’t strong.
The Springs Fire was stopped west of Malibu, along Deer Creek and Yerba Buena Roads.
